OCEANIC PLANKTON

With every breath you take, thank the ocean. Why? Plankton!

It is estimated that more than 50% of the oxygen production on Earth comes from the ocean and the majority of this production is from oceanic plankton. In fact, one particular species, Prochlorococcus, produces up to 20% of the oxygen in our entire biosphere. That’s a higher percentage than all of the tropical rainforests on land combined according to NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration

On #worldoceansday, we would to like come back to our post on the UN SDGs and remind ourselves that the purpose of national days like this is to inform the public of the impact of human actions, develop a worldwide movement of citizens and mobilize and unite the world’s population on a project for the sustainable management of our resources.

We encourage you to take a moment to read this great article on the power of the ocean in absorbing heat and contributing to the race to zero: https://lnkd.in/dVJU6HH
